Meditation

More often than not the word itself, “meditation” scares people off.  We have visions of yogis sitting in full lotus with an aura of peace and serenity about them.  It’s common to believe that this is the ideal state that we aim for in our meditation practice and we are understandably intimidated.  Most of our lifestyle doesn’t support the level of practice that makes this state attainable.

I teach that there is another way…. One that fits your lifestyle and temperament.  We are all unique desiring and responding to different foods, forms of exercise, levels of activity, occupations and lifestyles in general. So just like with everything else in life, There is no “one size fits all” for meditation.  Finding the right style of meditation, (and there are many) for you will be a huge factor in your level of success and desire for it… it has to work for you, fit with your life and once you start, you can build on your foundation, your chosen style and expand as you go…. And you will expand… you will learn that peace is real and attainable and that the word “Namaste” has real meaning for you.

Why Meditate?

There are five main frequencies that the brain operates at.  In our most wakeful and alert state, our brains are operating at the beta frequency.  The next slowest level is the Alpha and then Theta.  When we meditate we slow down to the Alpha state where brain activity slows down to 7-14 cycles per second and you become very relaxed and detached.  In very deep states of meditation, the brain slows down to 4-7 cycles per second and the ultimate state of peace and calm is achieved.

Scientists have found that achieving Alpha and Theta states during periods of meditation promote:

  • Deep relaxation, a reduction in stress and anxiety
  • Deep physical relaxation along with a reduction in pain
  • Improved focus and creativity
  • Synchronization of the left and right hemispheres of the brain
  • The production of endorphins and dopamine creating a sense of euphoria and well-being
  • Improved ability to shift your perspective to see “the bigger picture”

Meditation also helps us to reconnect with our inner knowing or our soul self which is also referred to as our higher-self, the part of us that knows us best and what’s good for all aspects of our well-being and continued growth as humans.

My Style of Teaching

I teach several styles of meditation, moving meditation, sitting, guided with imagery, High-self connection, and clearing meditations. I like to find out what your goals are for meditation and adapt your lessons to what you’d like to achieve.  To help you get the best results, I also consider your temperament, personality and lifestyle in finding the right style and pace for you in creating a practice.

You can combine a meditation lesson with a Massage, Bodywork or Energy Healing session or schedule an individual session.
